WHY

Pregnant people everywhere deserve a yoga teacher that is trained, educated and experienced in teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. Because saying things like “just modify the poses” or “just listen to your body” or “as long as it doesn’t hurt” or “if you were doing it before it’s probably ok” is not good advice.

Students need clear and purposeful guidance for how to create a practice that is appropriate before and after birth. Because taking a yoga class during the birth years is not the same as taking a prenatal or postnatal yoga class during the birth years. It’s different, our classes are tailored for the pregnant and postpartum experience.

We are cultivating a community of yoga teachers that have a passion for working with students during the birth years and have the training and education to do it safely and effectively. We strive to create better representation in the yoga community by training more Black and brown yoga teachers, trauma informed yoga teachers, teachers that understand gender identity, fertility, loss and mental health considerations.

We believe that birth justice is social justice and that teaching can have a profound impact on individuals as well as entire communities. We believe that yoga is more than postures: It’s a way to remember, reconnect and to embrace all parts of our journey.

More about Alicia, Lead Trainer and Founder of TriNatal Yoga School & Utah Prenatal Yoga

There’s a lot about me, but I’ll stay on point here: I am a yoga teacher with an auditory processing disorder, a speech impediment, general + social anxiety and I can rock an awesome yoga class! Why is this the first thing I tell you? Because I want you to know, whatever you think your limitations are- it doesn’t have to hold you back. You can become a skilled and successful yoga teacher with the right training and some practice:)

After my first *very crazy and difficult birth experience* I knew right away I wanted to teach prenatal yoga. I completed my 200hr and then Prenatal YTT while I was still nursing my second babe. I started a prenatal yoga business and continued on with my yoga education- becoming a Certified Anusara Teacher and ERYT-500. Why did I keep going even when I could have stopped at the minimum needed to teach? Because I love learning and the yoga practice has been a gift in my life. I am grateful for my teachers that have passed on this knowledge, particularly the teachers that have honored the true roots and intentions of the yoga practice and the culture from which it originated.

I’ll bring my background of more than 10 years teaching, training teachers, and running a thriving prenatal and postnatal yoga studio to our time together. I’ll also share my education and training as a birth + postpartum doula, and in holding space for pregnancy loss, pelvic floor education and way too many philosophy workshops to list here! You might get an earful about evolution because my Bachelor degree is in Anthropology. I promise I won’t get too nerdy.

I make my home in the mountains of Utah with my 2 kids, amazing partner and the world’s sweetest Labrador Retriever. We love all things outdoors (except bugs, I don’t like bugs) and watching movies together.

I acknowledge that the land on which I live, teach studio classes and conduct virtual trainings from, is the occupied/unceded/seized territory of the Ute (Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱), Goshute , and Eastern Shoshone People.
