FAQs

+ What if I haven’t had a baby, can I still teach prenatal and postnatal yoga?

YES! Anybody can teach prenatal and postnatal yoga IF THEY HAVE BEEN TRAINED! Having a baby does not qualify someone to teach prenatal/postnatal yoga. Having a basic yoga training does not qualify someone to teach prenatal/postnatal yoga. You become qualified to teach prenatal/postnatal yoga by taking a training, getting educated and learning the very specific and important techniques needed to teach students during the birth years.

+ Is teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga just about knowing how to modify poses?

No way! There is SO MUCH more to it than knowing how and why to modify asanas. We are going to talk about things you never imagined would matter when working with birthing people. We promise, it will blow your mind. Beyond the information about yoga teaching methodology we dive deep into philosophy, diversity, ethics and building a thriving business through your offering.

+ What qualification does the teaching staff have for this training?

We are a REGISTERED PRENATAL YOGA SCHOOL. That means the lead trainer has significant experience teaching students and training teachers (ERYT-500, RPYT) In addition to a highly experienced lead trainer, the guest instructors are leading experts in their fields. They hold doctorate degrees, masters degrees and specialty certifications for the topics they will instruct you about. We strongly recommend you choose a registered prenatal school with a lead trainer that holds more than just a RYT-200 (read; more training, education and experience than you already have) You’re investing a lot of time and money and instruction from experienced teachers is paramount. You can learn more about the instructors for the Trinatal Yoga School here.

+ Will I be able to register as a RPYT with Yoga Alliance after the training?

YES! We are a REGISTERED PRENATAL YOGA SCHOOL. If you meet the qualification for the RPYT (you are a RYT 200 or above) and you have completed the training requirements, you will be able to upgrade your registration to the RPYT.

+ What is the difference between Yoga Alliance “approved” or “accredited” and a Registered Prenatal Yoga School?

Unfortunately there are many prenatal and postnatal trainings that market themselves as “approved” or “accredited” by Yoga Alliance. This is not the same as a Registered Prenatal Yoga School (RPYS) designation. In order to be eligible to upgrade to a RPYT you must complete a training with a school that is currently REGISTERED as an RPYS and has the online exemption approval for training. You can search the RPYS database on Yoga Alliance to find a list of schools that are REGISTERED and approved for online training. YACEP hours will not make you eligible to upgrade to the RPYT.

+ Do I need to have my 200 hr certification in order to take this training?

Nope! There are some advantages to having a 200 hr+ certification prior to our training but it isn’t required. We welcome all yoga teachers, pilates instructors, birth workers and fitness professionals. If you are not pursuing the Yoga Alliance track it’s not a problem. You can still acquire the Prenatal Yoga and Postnatal Yoga Certification through Trinatal Yoga School by completing the training/post-training requirements. If in the future, you choose to pursue the 200hr/Yoga Alliance path we can work with you to ensure you can also register your RPYT.

+ What if I am not a yoga teacher or I am not pursuing yoga certification- Can I submit these hours for other professional CEU’s?

Yes. If you would like documentation of the completed training hours to submit for your other professional CEU requirements we can provide you with a certificate of completion (ex. midwives, doulas, PT’s, therapists, pilates instructors, fitness trainers, personal trainers, etc.) You do not need to complete the post-training teaching hours if you are wanting only professional CEU’s.

+ What is the tuition for Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Training?

The tuition for teacher training is $1695. If you break that down by contact hour with the highly trained and experienced instructors, it’s less than $25 per contact hour. You’d be paying a lot more than that for individual instruction with a professional!

+ Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We offer payment plans for tuition. In order to set up a payment plan you will need to submit your application and make the tuition deposit.

+ Do you offer scholarships for the teacher training?

Yes! Diversity Scholarships are available. Scholarships range from a reduction of the full tuition rate to a complete waiver of tuition. Scholarships are awarded based on need, commitment and availability. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship you can learn more about that process here.

+ Are there required books for the training?

Only two books are required: Diastasis Recti by Katy Bowman and Embrace Yoga's Roots by Susanna Barkataki. There are additional recommended books. You can find those books here. We want to be mindful about the time and cost of requiring all of these books. We know that everyone comes from different backgrounds and experience so we prefer to leave it up to you to decide what you need more information about and follow through accordingly. You can find most of these books online (new or used) or at the library.

+ How much “homework” will we have during the training?

Please be aware that there will be some additional “homework” outside of the training hours together as a group. You can plan to set aside 3-5 hours each week between sessions in order to complete your personal assignments.

+ Do I need to be present for all of the online training sessions?

Yes. Please arrange your schedule so that you can be present and engaged with the group during the scheduled online sessions. We know there are other trainings that offer manuals, DVD’s and worksheets- allowing you learn at your own pace. We understand there are people that need this option. However, we believe the BEST way to learn is in a live, interactive group setting. You’ll get real-time feedback from the instructors and priceless interaction and engagement from the other people in the training session. There’s just no way to replicate this on your own!

If there is an extenuating circumstance please reach out prior to the start of training to discuss options or solutions.

+ What props/equipment do I need for the training?

You will need a computer with Zoom access. A phone is ok if that’s your only option but a computer is strongly recommended.

You will need props: 2 yoga blocks and a yoga mat. A yoga bolster is also recommended but not necessary. If you need to order these things you can find links here.

A “baby belly”: a baby wrap/carrier or even a backpack with hip and chest straps will work. You will load these with blankets or heavy pillows to help simulate the pregnant body during asana practices.

A journal, pen and a quiet, comfortable space for lecture and practice.

+ What are the training/certification requirements?

1 - Attend all sessions of the training and complete the projects and activities assigned during training. 2 - After training: Complete the remaining class observations (you will complete about half of these during training, 10 total) The elective hours (10 total) If you plan to register with the Yoga Alliance for the RPYT designation the teaching hours must be completed before you apply for the upgraded status (30 total).

+ How do I complete my teaching hours after training?

30 hours of teaching prenatal yoga classes are required to register the RPYT with the Yoga Alliance. We will support you with this! There are many different options for getting started teaching Prenatal and Postnatal yoga. During the training we will discuss the options for getting started and help you create a plan.

+ What are the elective hours required for certification?

10 hours of elective education are required post-training. These hours should be completed in focus areas where you have not previously gained expertise. As we go through the training content you will be able to determine the topics where you might need additional education or training. Elective hour work should be done with a professional/formal organization. The additional cost of elective hour work is your decision- there any many free trainings that are high quality. If you choose elective work that requires additional funds, consider choosing something that will provide a return (certifications, additional marketable skills, etc.) You will keep an elective hours log and submit this along with your observation hours log.

+ Where do I complete my observation hours?

10 observation hours (10 classes) are required for certification/registration. You will complete 4-5 of these during the training. The remainder can be completed with anyone that is a certified or registered Prenatal Yoga teacher. There are many options for this online. You will keep a class observations log and submit this along with the elective hours log.

+ Is there a time limit for completing the post-training requirements?

No. You are encouraged to complete these hours sooner rather than later because we want you to keep going- stay in the game and get going with your new offering! If it takes you a long time, that’s ok. We will support you no matter how long it takes you to complete these requirements.

+ Do you offer ongoing support or mentoring after the training?

Yes. We stay connected through social networks in order to create and maintain a strong community of Prenatal and Postnatal yoga teachers!

We want you to get your new offering up and running- start teaching! We’ll help you do that. We will support you with your teaching hours, elective hours and observation hours.

If you are interested in additional mentoring after the training you may arrange for 1:1 coaching for your specific needs. You can learn more about that here.
